Butter Chicken- Makhni Handi


We all love Makhni Handi either its cooked at home or served at restaurants. There are a lot of places in Islamabad, Lahore and Rawalpindi which serve the best Makhni karahi and Handi. No one can beat the taste of Butt Karahi's makhani karahi in Lahore and Balla Tikka's karachi in Rawalpindi. Its all about that sauce when it comes to authentic Murgh Makhni. We have tweaked the recipe a little just to make it easy for you to prepare at home.


Ingrediants:

  • Half kg boneless chicken breast cut in small cubes (as per reuirement)
  • 2 tablespoons Shaan tandoori masala 
  • We prefer using Ginger and Garlic Paste (one tbls each)
  • Key ingrediant for the sauce yougourt (1/2 cup)
  • Oil (we prefer one spoon)


Butter Chicken Sauce

  • 3 tbls Butter (Blue band, Nupur or Desi Makhan)
  • 1 large onion, thinly sliced
  • Ginger and garlic paste ir crushed one tbls each
  • 1 fully grown tomatoo crushed
  • 1 teaspoon Lal mirch
  • 1 1/2 tablespoon coriander powder
  • 1 1/2 teaspoon cumin powder
  • 1/2 cup heavy whipping cream (This will make your sauce rich)
  • (Whipper cream can be baught from the market our can be made at home)
  • 1/2 teaspoon garam masala
  • Salt as per taste

Method:

Murgh/Chicken

  1. Add tandoori masala, ginger, garlic, and yogurt in a bowl. Add the chicken and mix properly and leave to marinate for at least 45 minutes.
  2. Heat the butter in a pot at a medium heat. Add the onionsfor about 5-6 minutes, don’t burn the onions to black or brown. Add ginger and garlic stir for 30 seconds. Add tomatoes, lal mirch and cumin powder. Stir for another 4 minutes and add  a small amount of water.                                 
  3. Take a new pot and cook the marinated chicken till it changes it colour from the both the side. 
  4. After cooking for about 5-6 minutes add the sauce we prepared and let every thing cook together. 
  5. Add the cream (if you want the sauce to be more rich you can add the cream as per your requirement)
  6. Add garam masala and leave every thing to cook together for a few minutes. 

You will know when your yummu makhni murgh is ready! if you are a Makhan lover you can add a little more butter in the end to make it more makhni.

Makhni chicken can be served with white rice, garlic rice or best with the Roghni Naan or tandoori Paratha.
